About this resource
Ready to print, adapt and use.
This two-page worksheet uses four genuine paragraphs of the Proclamation of the Irish Republic. Students highlight the organisations it names, the outside help it claims and the promises it makes, answer multiple-choice questions on key phrases such as 'gallant allies in Europe' and 'an alien government', and explain what the document reveals about the aims of the Rising's leaders.
Teaching notes
Treat the sheet as documents-based question practice: insist that students quote short phrases to support each point. A copy of the full Proclamation, available from the National Library of Ireland, lets students see the seven signatories and the printing errors of the original.
